FamilyTreeDNA

Ready inRight away

The FamilyTreeDNA chip covers fewer of our markers than 23andMe or AncestryDNA, so the report is shorter.

  1. 01Turn on two-step verification (2FA) in your FamilyTreeDNA account first. Downloads are blocked without it.
  2. 02Sign in to your kit and go to Results & Tools, then Autosomal DNA, then "Download Raw Data".
  3. 03Download "Build 37 Concatenated Raw Data". Not the Y-SNP file, which holds no report markers.
  4. 04Drop the .csv.gz into the free analysis below. No need to unpack it.

VCF (clinical / WGS)

.vcf · raw export
Ready inDepends on your lab
  1. 01Get the VCF file from your lab, sequencing provider, or research kit. Plain .vcf and gzipped .vcf.gz both work as-is.
  2. 02The ID column must hold rsIDs (rs123...). Markers are matched by rsID, so a VCF with "." in that column gives no results.
  3. 03The file must unpack to 200 MB or less. Most whole-genome VCFs are several gigabytes and are not supported yet.
  4. 04A whole-genome VCF usually lists only positions where you differ from the reference, so markers where you match it are missing.
  5. 05Drop it into the free analysis below. No conversion needed.
