A Nebula Genomics alternative for the DNA file you already have

Nebula Genomics now sells under the name DNA Complete. It offers two things: whole genome sequencing kits, and DNA Expand, a membership for people who upload a 23andMe or AncestryDNA file. Helisoma does one thing: it turns the chip file you already have into a sourced wellness report, read in your browser and paid for once.

What Nebula Genomics does well

Whole genome sequencing. Nebula, co-founded in 2018 by Harvard geneticist George Church, was one of the first companies to sell a full genome to consumers for a few hundred dollars. DNA Complete keeps that going: kits from $245 for low 1x coverage up to $1,295 for 100x, with your full CRAM and VCF files to download. If you want to read rare variants that a chip never looks at, sequencing is the right tool, and Helisoma does not sell it.

What happened to Nebula Genomics?

ProPhase Labs bought Nebula in 2021. In late 2024 it launched DNA Complete, which now sells the kits and reports on the Nebula website under the line "DNA Complete by Nebula Genomics". Also in October 2024, a customer filed a class action alleging that Nebula shared genetic information with Meta, Google and Microsoft without written consent. In March 2026 a federal judge let the case go forward. These are allegations, not findings, and the case is still open.

Questions people ask

Is Nebula Genomics still in business?

Yes, under a new name. The Nebula website now sells DNA Complete, a ProPhase Labs company: whole genome kits from $245 and the DNA Expand upload plan at $49.95 a year. Prices as listed on dnacomplete.com in October 2026.

Can I use my Nebula whole genome file with Helisoma?

Yes. Download the VCF (.vcf.gz) from your Nebula or DNA Complete account and drop it on the VCF page. Your browser reads it on your device, however big it is, and only the few hundred markers the report uses reach us. The BAM or CRAM read files are not needed.

Is imputed DNA data accurate?

Imputation estimates the letters your chip did not read from patterns in reference genomes. It works best for common variants and worst for rare ones, which are usually the ones people want a genome for. Helisoma reports only the markers your chip actually read.

Do I have to upload my raw DNA file to Helisoma?

No, and that is the core difference. Your browser reads the file on your own device and sends only the small set of markers the report uses. We never receive or store the raw file.

What does the Helisoma report cover?

Sleep and chronotype, caffeine response, nutrition markers, training and recovery, stress and mood leans, and longevity markers. Every card shows your genotype, the honest effect size, and a link to the study behind it.

How much does Helisoma cost?

The analysis is free: drop your raw DNA file on helisoma.com and see real insights with no account. The full report is a one-time $49 payment with no subscription.

Is Helisoma a medical test?

No. It is an educational wellness report built on peer-reviewed population research, not a diagnosis. Clinical questions belong with a doctor.
